Spreading my wings

My mom and sister left yesterday after helping out here for this past month.  Braedon and I were sad to see them leave!  My mom was so helpful and I’m going to miss having adult company and an extra set of hands during the day.

Braedon and my mom are buds, although I think her having an iPad makes her more of a bud in Baeo’s eyes.  Just call her gramma iPad.  That is practically what Braedon did the whole time she was here.  I think she felt used at times just for all the fun toddler games she has downloaded.  After they left yesterday Braedon was asking me for the iPad.  Sorry kid, you’re out of luck.

She was great to have around in the evenings to walk and hold Adi during her fussy time.

It was also nice to have her here during our fly crisis.  This picture was taken in between doctor appointments.

Braedon also had a blast with his Auntie Jenny.  They became pals and she did an awesome job playing with him and keeping him entertained, when he wasn’t asking grandma for the iPad.
So now, it is time for me to spread my wings…

Braedon, please be easy on me while I learn to juggle two kids on my own.  Hopefully I catch on fast!

1 month stats

1month3

Adilyn had her one month check up today.  Wow, I can’t believe a month has already gone by since she came into our lives!  It is going so fast!  Adi is doing wonderful and continues to be a very good baby.  Last time I posted her weight stats I made the mistake of typing 8.15 pounds when it was 7.15 pounds.  So at 2 weeks she was 7.15.  Today when I put her on the scale at the doctors I was very surprised, as was the doctor.

Weight: 9.6 pounds (That is not a typo.  Adi has gained 1.6 pounds in two weeks.  My little girl loves to eat!)

Height:  22 inches

She is thriving and that is such a good feeling.  Breastfeeding is so easy with her, which is such a relief considering Braedon struggled the whole time and it was quite frustrating for both of us.

Adi continues to be a happy baby and pretty easy going and laid back.  Her stretches of sleep at night continue to increase, which is so nice!  She is becoming much more alert and I keep thinking I’m going to see a little smile any day now.  I can’t wait!

1month

We sure do love our little girl.  Braedon is growing to like her a little more now too, so that’s good.

So last month

Sitting on fake animals and visiting the goats at Happy Hollow are so last month.

Could the stink eye be more potent?

Do you know what is much more exciting now?  Being tall enough to ride the roller coaster!

And the Frog Hopper!

hh2

Just barely tall enough.  Like if he wore his sandals instead of his Adidas shoes he wouldn’t make the cut.  Note to self, always wear the Adidas to Happy Hollow…and maybe a hat.

Shoo fly!

Wow, today has been an interesting day.  it all started about 9:30 this morning while I was feeding Adilyn.  Braedon found a dead fly on the floor in the living room, which of course he had to examine and prod at.  I told him to leave it alone and we would clean it up after I was done.  Not even 30 seconds later I look up and see that he was putting something in his ear and the fly was gone.  Yes folks, Braedon shoved a dead fly in his ear.  My mom tried to get it out, but all she got was a wing.  We didn’t want to push it up any further so I called the pediatrician and she said to bring him right in.  After about 15 minutes of trying multiple ways to get the fly out and Braedon freaking out, she decided she was not going to be able to get it and set up an appointment with another doctor about an hour later.  I came home, fed Adi again and then we made our way to the next doctor.  There, it took about five nurses to hold him down as he screamed, kicked, and threw punches, but they finally got it out!  Luckily, because if that wouldn’t have worked they were going to have to sedate him.  Braedon was rewarded with a sticker and a sucker.  I was rewarded with an iced coffee from Starbucks.  This was a first for both doctors.  This was also a first for us, and hopefully it will be the last.

So what else has Mr. Baeo been up to lately.  Well, besides shoving dead insects in his ear he has been playing in the pool on these hot September days…

and shoving cars down my cleavage, also known as a “parking garage.”  Yes, I actually have enough cleavage to be able to hide things.  I will spare you all that picture though.

He has been riding Jenny…

and practicing his yoga.

So you see, Braedon has been a very busy boy but I think it might be time to get him back into playgroup.

Week 3

Adi will be three weeks on Thursday!

IMG_8785

15:  Number of times Adi has pooped or peed on someone while getting her diaper changed.  It doesn’t matter how long you wait to change her after a feeding, she will poop or pee on you.  I’m afraid to change her diaper…every time.

4.15:  The record for the number of hours of consecutive sleep at night.

2:15:  How often Adi eats during the day, on average.

8.15:  How much Adi weighed at her check up last week. She was 7.3 pounds at birth. A very good eater indeed!

 IMG_8792

Adi also rocks at tummy time.  I think we are going to have an early mover on our hands.  She is already really good at holding up her head, and her legs and feet just go crazy when she is on her stomach.

IMG_8794

We are loving having my mom here.  She has been so helpful and I don’t know what I’m going to do when she leaves.  I think she is the main reason for no emotional breakdowns…yet.  My sister Jenny has been very helpful as well.  Her and Braedon are good buds and she helps keep him entertained.

tummytime

Braedon is starting to do better. We only had one really rough day this week, but overall I think he is starting to get used to our new little addition.

b&a

On Saturday we ventured out to Monteray and went to the aquarium.  Braedon had an absolute blast!  He loves fish and water and this proved to be a very fun treat for him.

Our second week

IMG_8757

I don’t want to jinx myself, but so far Adi is such a good and sweet baby.  She eats and sleeps very well and is very laid back and chill.  So far no one is sleep deprived in this house!  I will be more excited after we hit that 4 week mark.  Braedon loves her and asks about her when she is in her bed napping, brings her stuffed animals, and gives her hugs and kisses.  We are still dealing with some jealousy issues though, especially when I am feeding Adi and Braedon doesn’t want me to.

Braedon and Adilyn

Braedon loves his little sister and wants to hold, kiss and hug her quite frequently (which hasn't yet impacted her naps but the time will likely come that it will).

More Adi, as promised

So far things are going pretty smoothly with having Adi home.  She is a very calm and laid back baby, although I know that can change in an instant.  Braedon is still having a little difficulty, but I know he will get used to the change of having a sibling.  The hardest part for him is not having his mom’s total attention all of the time.  I feel so bad and am making sure that he gets some quality mom time a couple of times throughout the day where we read books and do whatever he wants.

Almost ready to leave the hospital.

Welcome Adilyn Paige Peterson

As you all probably know, Adi joined us last night, September 1 at 9:57 pm.  Derek and I arrived to the hospital at 7:30 am, they broke my water probably close to 8 and then started pitocin about an hour after that.  It took awhile for the contractions to pick up and for me to dialate, but once I hit 5 cm, which happened at about 8 pm, she was here 2 hours later!

Early the next morning Derek went back to the house to pick up Braedon and brought him back to the hospital to meet his sister for the first time.

What a proud big brother!

We got home today at around 10:30 this morning.  Thankfully my parents got here yesterday afternoon and my mom will be staying for about 3 weeks to help us out.  I can already tell Baeo is going to have some difficulty adjusting as he is used to my full attention all the time.

Thanks so much everybody for all your well wishes and congratulations!  We really appreciate it!!

More pictures to come.
