A jumping mishap

It was bound to happen.  Braedon is a little daredevil who loves to jump.

IMG_8441_edited-1

He spent his whole summer mastering this skill, after all.

IMG_8443_edited-1

On Wednesday we went to Happy Hallow and Braedon was playing in the playground area.  He was jumping off of one of the rock structures, because he will jump off anything.  It only took one time to land wrong.  For the whole day we thought he had hurt his foot because that is what he said was hurting.  As we were standing in line for the roller coaster he asked me to carry him and was walking with a very bad limp.  Yes, even though he was in pain he still had to ride the roller coaster, and the frog hopper.  We just had to carry him from ride to ride.

Braedon is a very tough boy and never complains about any pain or little injuries that he might get.  So this was somewhat of a red flag.  Derek called the doctor while we were in line for the roller coaster and she said if he still wasn’t walking without pain the next day to bring him in.  Well, that morning he wouldn’t even try to walk.  He was crawling everywhere, which wasn’t a good sign, so we took him to the doctor.  It turns out that it is his hip.  She said to keep an eye on him and carry him around for the next few days and everyday see how he reacts when he tries to walk.  Today when I went and got him he didn’t even want to stand up from bed.

I can tell he is in pain not only by not wanting to walk, but he has been very mellow the last couple of days.  He hasn’t shown any interest in playing with his toys and he is taking very long naps, like three hours long.  There has been a lot of cuddle time.

I really hope there is some improvement over the next couple of days.  I want my energetic baby back!

As for Adi, well she has been trying to rock the cute headbands Grandma Peterson made for her.

IMG_9604_edited-1

She doesn’t quite understand what accessories are for though and prefers to eat them.

IMG_9610_edited-1

Right after I put her little head band on she will work it down over her eyes until it gets to her mouth.

Maybe she knows something I don’t know…new trend for 2012?  Maybe.

Ways to keep your toddler busy

IMG_9543

Things you’ll need:

A sink filled with soapy water

Plastic containers, bowls, and spoons

A chair for them to reach the sink

About 10 towels

A new change of clothes

A laid back personality who doesn’t mind water EVERYWHERE

A rambunctious toddler

Next step:

Teaching him to actually wash, dry, and put away the dishes.

Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas!  We had a very laid back and quiet one this year.  It was nice, but because I am so used to being around a lot of family, it was a little too quiet.  I guess that just means next year we are going to have to make the drive up to Seattle!

On Christmas Eve we hung out around the house.  I prepared breakfast for Christmas morning and made my very first pie, crust and all.  Okay, so it was a graham cracker crust, which is probably the easiest kind and doesn’t really count, but I’m counting it!  We went to a very nice Christmas Eve service at our church where Derek and I got to enjoy the service by ourselves for the first time since Adi was born.  We decided to let Adi try out the nursery for the first time and she did great!  After the service we came home and munched cheese and crackers, apples, and pears along with some wine for dinner.

On Christmas morning, I woke up early to get my 7 mile run in and then the festivities began.  After all, Santa had come and Baeo was very excited!

IMG_9570

IMG_9573

It took us a good 2 and 1/2 hours to go through all of our presents.  Braedon would open one and then want to play with it right away, so he would.  When he was ready he would open another one and then play some more.

Derek was pretty excited about his new toy too.

IMG_9574

Kids can be so easy to please.  Braedon loves cones!

IMG_9575

He also thought Adi’s new exersaucer needed a test drive.

IMG_9577

Adi woke up but was all about breakfast before presents.  After she ate she, I mean me, got to opening her gifts.

IMG_9582

Just ignore my wet, messy hair and see how thrilled Adi is to be getting a teether that is also a purse.

IMG_9584

Santa also brought Adi some really cute animal puppets.  I don’t know who was more excited, me or her.

After all the present opening, Braedon was acting very tired and getting pretty cranky.  I don’t know if it was overstimulation from the morning or what but at 11:40 he declared it nap time by saying he needed a nap and went and grabbed his blanket, put himself to bed, and took a 3 hour nap.  Merry Christmas to me!  Just kidding (kinda), but when he woke up he was a lot more pleasant.

While the kids napped, Derek and I finished up this last season of Dexter.  Not very Christmasy and cheery, I know.  We were hooked though and had to finish it.  After it was over we turned on some Christmas music and watched a Christmas Story to make up for it.

We had a nice afternoon skyping with family, eating dinner, and playing a couple of games Braedon got for Christmas.

Derek has this whole week off!  We don’t have any plans, so we are going to do whatever we feel like.  Does anyone want to fly down for New Years so we can go out?

Christmas lights

One of the things on my to do list for this Christmas was to get out and look at Christmas lights.  I found a website where you just pick a city in California and it has pictures of the best houses with decorations as well as ratings and directions.  You just click on the houses you want to see and it will make a route for you.  Pretty awesome if you ask me.
So after dinner yesterday we loaded up the kids and went on our way.  At first Braedon was just mad because he wanted to go inside of the houses.  He took him a while to get the concept of looking at lights.  The first destination was two neighboring houses that had worked together to create a Christmas light show synchronized to music.  Braedon loved that so we stayed and watched the little show for a good 20 minutes.  When we were ready to leave (we, not Braedon) at first he was mad because he didn’t want to leave, but after explaining that there was plenty more to see and we excitedly pointed out all the other lights along the way, he really started getting in to it.
This folks is one of the best things about having kids, in my opinion.  His excitement and little screams of joy as he would point out, “another Christmas light, another one!” made the whole experience so much more fun!  We spent almost two hours looking at Christmas lights and Braedon loved every  minute of it, once he got past the idea of wanting to go in the houses.  I can’t wait to watch him on Christmas morning! I don’t have any pictures of the lights, but they never turn up well on the camera anyway.
Instead I’ll just leave you with some pictures of the kids…
in other news, Adi can hold toys now!

Braedon still fits in the Bumbo.

When he refuses to nap, it shows all over his face.

Adi loves watching her crazy brother run around and play, either that or she is watching him like a hawk to make sure he doesn’t run her over with his bike or something.

About Braedon

I was on Pinterest a couple of weeks ago and I saw this fun idea to do with your kids.  It was like a survey for your toddler where you ask them a bunch of questions and see how they answer them and then a year or so down the road ask them the same questions again and see how they have changed.

While Braedon was eating his lunch today I decided to ask him a few questions just off the top of my head to see if he would he give me legit answers and to my surprise he did!  So, here we go!

Braedon:  Age 2 and 1/2

IMG_9518

Favorites:

Food:  Chicken nuggets (which he hasn’t had in forever so I thought it was kind of funny)

Color:  Green

Toy:  Lightening McQueen (no surprise there!)

Drink:  Water

Place to go: the park

Show:  Wonder Pets

Book:  Cars

Thing to do: watch a movie

Thing I cook for him: Cookies and pretzels

What do you dream about?  Take a nap

What do you do at church?  Play with cars

Where did Adi come from:  Your tummy

What makes you happy?  Popcorn

What makes you sad?  Scared of my night time light. (Not quite sure what this means but I think he may be becoming afraid of the dark)

What are you looking forward to?  Turning around (starting to lose his attention…)

What do I like to do?  Listen to me.  (oh really…)

Lots of candy with a side of gingerbread

At Costco a couple of weeks ago we picked up a prebuilt gingerbread house that I thought would be so much fun to decorate with Braedon.  Especially since the hard part of putting it together was already done for you.  So, tonight after dinner we decided to get our decorating on!

IMG_9490

IMG_9492_edited-1

Not surprisingly Braedon was all about the candy.

IMG_9498_edited-1

One of the gingerbread men didn’t survive the decorating party either.

IMG_9496_edited-1

Here is the finished product!

IMG_9501_edited-1

Braedon had lots of fun eating the candy, and I think he enjoyed decorating the house too.  He’s either upstairs in bed right now asleep or in a sugar coma.  It’s kind of hard to tell.

Santa Success!!

IMG_9459_edited-1

Yesterday we took Braedon to go see Santa.  He was very excited to sit on his lap and tell him what he wanted for Christmas.  I honestly didn’t know how it would go considering what happened last year.

2010_Dec_IMG_7279_edited-1

Well this year my big, brave boy went right up to Santa, sat on his lap with no problems, and told him that he needed a new bike because his is broken, hot wheel cars and a race track.

IMG_9458_edited-1

Adi was making sure this was the real Santa by testing out how tough his beard was.  She had quite the grip and luckily she didn’t ruin Christmas for her brother or all the other little kids.

IMG_9460_edited-1

I sat on Derek’s lap and asked for a massage….just a massage this year!  Last year I asked for one too except 9 months later I also got an Adi.

After we sat on Santa’s lap Derek and Braedon got to ride the Christmas train…

IMG_9466

while Adi waited patiently.

IMG_9469_edited-1

Her hair band in this picture cracks me up.  She must have messed it up while she was finding her thumb.

Now for some extra cuteness…

IMG_9451_edited-1

Love!  Daddy’s little girl.

And the Baeo taking over Adi’s toys with all his cars.  Braedon seems to think what's his is his and what’s Adi’s is also his.

Week of fun

Guess who we got to hang out with this week?

IMG_9445

Grandma Wilson!!  She flew in to town last Saturday and we spent the whole week playing, crafting, making Christmas cookies, drinking coffee, and just hanging out.

IMG_9449

Christmas cookie making in progress.

IMG_9428

Making sugar cookies has always been a tradition in my family and my mom has the best sugar cookie recipe!  I think Braedon’s favorite part was eating them!

IMG_9414

We also went to Christmas in the Park in downtown one day to walk around and look at all the decorated Christmas trees and exhibits that were set up.

IMG_9412

IMG_9420_edited-1

Braedon is getting some cooking stuff and pretend food for Christmas but he doesn’t have a kitchen or anything so my mom and I got creative one day and made him this with stuff we had laying around the house.

IMG_9443

A kitchen…that cost us NOTHING…and Braedon LOVES it.

IMG_9444

He loves to make me scrambled eggs and fish.  Yesterday morning the first thing he said when he woke up was, “I’ll cook you breakfast, mommy.”  I have it right next to the kitchen so he can cook along side me.  He sure is getting quite the imagination too.  Yesterday as he was cooking he came into the dining room to where I was and said, “Oh no mommy, it spilled over!”  I have no idea where he has ever heard something like that before (said in sarcastic voice).  After I helped him clean out his oven from the mess everything was okay again and he just remade whatever he was cooking.

Thanks for coming and visiting us Mom!  We had a blast and miss you already!!

Thumb sucker

IMG_9399

So, I have a 2 1/2 year old very attached to his binkie and now it looks like I will have a thumb sucker on my hands.  Adi found her thumb this last week or so.  I do have to admit it is pretty cute, especially watching her find it.  She will start out by putting her hand up over her head and then she will slide it down her face until she finds her thumb.

Isn’t she a doll?

3 months!

IMG_9365

and no longer a newborn.

IMG_9363

Okay, time is officially going by way too fast.  I can’t believe my baby was 3 months old yesterday!  Want to know what Miss Adilyn is up to lately?  Read on…

IMG_9330

She loves staring at the Christmas tree.  I will usually put her in front of it while I’m cooking dinner and is entertained the whole time.

IMG_9333

She usually has pretty good company too.  Meet our new babysitter.  She is really cheap.

Adi is also smiling constantly and she has just started giggling and making a ton of noise.

IMG_9356

She continues to be a very good eater and baby, and has started sleeping through the night this past week.

Now onto some other things…we put up our Christmas tree last weekend and Braedon had an absolute blast.

IMG_9319

We turned up the Christmas music and got down to business.

IMG_9328

Derek handed out ornaments…

IMG_9321

Adi supervised…

IMG_9320

and Braedon decorated.

IMG_9323

He picked out one branch and went to town.

It’s crazy that the holiday season is already here!
