USS Constitution ("Old Iron Sides")

On Sunday we were able to tour the USS Constitution commonly known as "Old Iron Sides" and is the oldest commissioned war ship in the United States (it was commissioned by George Washington in the 1790s and still sails at least twice per year). Derek was very excited for this and it was pretty neat to see.

Here is Braedon and Derek waiting patiently for the tour to start...25 minutes before the first tour put us in the front of the line which grew very rapidly and was probably an hour wait by the start of our tour.

I can’t even imagine how bad it must have stunk in there! About 400 men!

Braedon was happy for the tour to be over.

I wish I could tell you all that I learned from the tour, but I was a little stressed out trying to keep a one year old under control and didn’t hear much of any of it. He only spilled milk on the beautifully waxed floor once…I kind of wanted to crawl under a rock. Oh, and I already mentioned the cannon licking. So if you want more history behind these pictures then just look it up.

The Boston Common

While in Boston we were also able to enjoy the commons. Braedon got to play with some ducks and at the playground that they had in the center of the commons. He had a great time and did not want to leave, in other words he threw a fit.

He also rode his second duck of the day.

And gave them a little love…

His hugs are adorable and pretty funny. This is how he hugs everything and everyone, including strange little kids at the park.

Braedon also had fun going down the slide.

Have you ever wondered what kids see as picture worthy? Well we found out as we gave Braedon our old point and shoot camera and below are the results.

Boston Part 1

As Derek mentioned in the previous post, we were able to go to Boston this weekend.  Boston is one of the top cities on my list of places I have always wanted to visit, so I was very excited for this trip.  We crammed a lot of sightseeing into this weekend vacation, so I will be breaking up the posts with some of the different things that we got to experience.  We left Friday morning and ended up getting stuck in Boston rush hour…about 60 miles outside of Boston, so the 5 and 1/2 hour trip turned into about 9.  We were pretty happy to finally get there!

We stayed at the Omni Parker House, which was in a great location and a beautiful hotel.

IMG_6769

After breakfast on Saturday morning, we decided to ride the ducks, which is a water and land tour that goes all over Boston.  Seattle has the same thing, but we have never felt the need to do that.  We were tourists all the way this weekend!
